James, do you mean the existing/integrated Local quote function? If yes, I would be worried that the forms would be filled with garbage/spam quote requests. These would then in principle we forwarded directly to the businesses. I agree though that it would be more ideal if people could fill them directly, but I think it would require more than a captcha filter..

We would definitely need to figure out how to get around that. I'm afraid required registration isn't really an option, it would be devastating for the conversion rate. Of course if we're talking free traffic it would just mean that you get fewer leads, but in case of paid traffic it will cut into your ROI - worst case you could end up paying more for the leads than you can realistically sell them for.

We did something like this a while ago with no registration/captcha with great success and no spam, but maybe we just didn't do it long enough for the spammers to find us

Anyway, I'm not sure how we can get around it, but it can be done - I've seen lots of these lead generation pages that don't even require captcha -- not sure what they do though.

Maybe a two step process where we put the captcha on the second page. In that case we wouldn't have any decreased drop off rate on the first page, and likely only a very small drop-off rate on the second page.

Both ideas are sound Brock... I also fully understand where nrodal is coming from as I get SPAM already from the Report inapproiate post module on the site...

I am sure a happy medium can be found.. I will think abotu it as well.

Thanks Guys

Absolutely, we'll work that part out.

A site that does lead generation very well is buyerzone.com. But their landing pages are not geographically targeted which of course is an advantage for us. A local site doing this will be perceived as more relevant for a visitor, and people will be more likely to fill out the form simply because it's "close to home" so to speak.

The question is though - for those of you who wants to pursue this - which markets are there in your region that might work with something like this? Buyerzone gives a good indication for the kind of markets that it works well with. They're focused on b2b markets though, there are other markets that could be suitable as well in b2c niches such as cars, finance, and other expensive stuff.

And next, what kind of search volume is there?

Use https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal to find search volume. Type in the name of your city/area in the box and you will get related terms back. You can also type in area+niche, for example type : michigan office and you will see search volume on keywords that contain these two words, for example how many search for michigan office supplies or michigan office chairs. If there is sufficient search volume it might be a relevant niche to put up a landing page about and contact local businesses to sell them leads.

So - is everyone off finding viable local lead generation markets? Getting this set up is doable. To begin with, you just need to come up with is one or more markets - ideally in the high priced product/services area, either b2c or b2b - and we will take it from there. It could be something simple like: Plumbing services in Michigan - in other words, a market + area.. Get back to me in this thread, and we will take the first steps towards setting it up.

Martin,

I have noticed locally insurance agents tend to give out gas cards etc for refferals so that might be a good market that every town has...

Also I found a bunch of sites on the net that let you create forms VERy easily... one such place was foxyform.com and I made a little example below..

Click This for an Insurance example...

Actually that's not a bad looking form -- but can it do check boxes, drop downs and such? Otherwise I think Google docs might be better - that is also extremely easy to use.

Insurance is ideal - although at first glance it seems like you're out of luck on that front James, as it doesn't appear there are many searches in Google for terms related to kankakee+insurance - maybe people in Kankakee just choose to be very, very careful in their daily lives instead?

Seems there is much more activity for hotels, jobs, and restaurants, but you probably already know that.

Anyway, the insurance thing could be tested though. Although the numbers indicate that there aren't many searches, in reality there could be more.

Another I just want to add - looking through this thread it appears that I forgot to mention that the example lead generation form I provided earlier on this (very ugly, old domain name): http://findmydentalplan.com/show_cus...name=Lead+test was was made in around 10 minutes with Google Docs.

You can sign up here : http://docs.google.com/

If you already use gmail there is a link in there.
